John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough (1644-1722), was one of the greatest military commanders and statesmen in the history of England. Sir Winston S. Churchill (1874-1965) was also a well-known historian, biographer, and writer. Among his many books are

The Second World War (six volumes). Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values."
