Palermo2007 is also the 30th anniversary of Palermos death: the artist, who was born in 1943 in Leipzig, died at the age of 33 in Kurumba on the Maldives. On this occasion the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen stage jointly the first large show of Palermos work in Düsseldorf. Palermos (Peter Heisterkamp) work will be shown for the first time on a more extensive scale in the city which was the centre of his artistic activity for many years. Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and the Kunstverein will dedicate a comprehen-sive solo exhibition as well as a unique book to an internationally renowned 20th Century artist and will represent works originated mostly in Düsseldorf. The presentation of the show will engage in particular with the specific architec-tural features of the Kunsthalle. If the reports of his friends are anything to go by, Palermo was fascinated by the architecture of the washed concrete building on the Grabbeplatz and would have liked to have held an exhibition there during his lifetime.
