In this book, José Rente Nascimento explores the region’s economic, social, environmental, and cultural dynamics, revealing the delicate interplay between humanity and nature. The chapters trace the Amazon’s economic evolution—from Amerindian resource management and European exploration to the rubber boom and post-colonial policies. Examining modern developments, including highways, mining, ranching, and agricultural colonization, the book also offers insights into sustainable prosperity.
