Description

En savoir plus

This book is a ground-breaking exploration into the world of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and their potential as novel biomarkers for colorectal cancer. Throughout this book, readers will learn about the latest research on VOCs, their production, release, and detection in various body fluids. At the heart of this book is the matter of early diagnosis and screening for colorectal cancer using these biomarkers.
The chapters cover topics such as the production of VOCs in neoplasia, their release into the gut and bloodstream, and their detection in feces, exhaled breath, and urine. The authors provide an expert analysis of various analytical platforms used for VOC detection and identification, including gas sensors array-based E-noses and gas chromatography. Particular attention is given to how VOCs can be used as potential biomarkers for colorectal cancer. In addition to this, the work explores alternative strategies for colorectal cancer screening and early diagnosis.
This book is a must-read for researchers in the field of cancer research, oncology, gastroenterology, and medical diagnostics. It provides valuable insights into novel methods for early detection of colorectal cancer, making it a valuable resource for academics across the disciplines of medical science.

A propos de l'auteur

Arcangelo Picciariello, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of General Surgery at the University of Salento, Lecce, Italy. He is a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery (Coloproctology) and Chair of the Young Group of the Italian Society of Surgical Oncology. Previously, he served as a clinical and research fellow at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. His research has focused extensively on the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in colorectal cancer patients. He completed his PhD thesis titled: “Early Diagnosis of Colorectal Cancer by the Analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds in Exhaled Breath.”
Donato F. Altomare, MD is a Full Professor of General Surgery at the University Aldo Moro of Bari, Italy, and a Visiting Professor at Stony Brook University, Long Island, New York, USA. He is recognized among the top Italian scientists (as ranked by PLOS Biology in 2017). He is a former President of the Italian Society of Colorectal Surgery and previously served as Chairman of the Scientific Program of the European Society of Coloproctology. He also held the role of Associate Director of the International Society of University Colorectal Surgeons. Professor Altomare is one of the pioneers in investigating volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in colorectal cancer.
