En savoir plus

The Order of the Knights Templar was formed after the First Crusade by Christian knights dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Professionals of war and religious men, the Knights Templar's initial intention was to protect pilgrims who frequented the holy places from Islamic attacks. However, during the Middle Ages, the Church dominated the European religious scene and assumed full authority over social relations. However, at the opposite end of the spectrum, there was also an element that jeopardised the very existence of the Church: heresies, which were considered to be the fruit of the syncretism that made Christianity strong, but also weak. Thus, at the beginning of the 14th century, the Order of the Knights Templar was the victim of an inquisitorial trial that accused them of having practised sodomite practices, among other things. As a result of this trial, the Order was the victim of an inquisitorial process that accused them of having practised sodomite practices, among other acts. As a result of this trial, the Order was dissolved, and many of its members died due to the greed of King Philip the Fair.
