Introduzione, traduzione in italiano e commento dell'orazione Contro Timoteo, pronunciata dall'oratore Apollodoro negli anni 60 del IV secolo a. C. e confluita nel corpus demosthenicum.
Nell'introduzione sono affrontate le problematiche relative alla tipologia di azione giudiziaria, alla datazione del discorso, alla struttura e alla rilevanza giuridica delle argomentazioni addotte dall'oratore, alla figura del banchiere nel panorama socio-economico dell'Atene classica. L'introduzione è completa di un'appendice prosopografica sui personaggi storici menzionati nel testo (Callistrato, Ificrate, Giasone, Alceta) e di una sezione dedicata alla tradizione manoscritta, nonché di una nota testuale. All'introduzione segue la traduzione, la prima in lingua italiana per questo testo. Infine, il lungo commento, il primo commento estensivo che l'orazione riceva.
Il volume offrirà un utile strumento di lavoro per studiosi e studenti che si trovino a dover consultare o leggere l'orazione Contro Timoteo. Introduction, translation into Italian and commentary of the oration Contro Timoteo, delivered by the orator Apollodorus in the 60s of the 4th century BC and included in the corpus Demosthenicum.
The introduction deals with issues related to the type of legal action, the dating of the speech, the structure and legal relevance of the arguments put forward by the orator, and the figure of the banker in the socio-economic landscape of classical Athens. The introduction is completed with a prosopographical appendix on the historical figures mentioned in the text (Callistratus, Iphicrates, Jason, Alceta) and a section on the manuscript tradition, as well as a textual note. The introduction is followed by the translation, the first in Italian for this text. Finally, the long commentary, the first extensive commentary the oration has received.
The volume will provide a useful working tool for scholars and students who find themselves having to consult or read the oration Against Timothy. Indeed, both the introduction and the commentary combine a close philological, historical and legal analysis of the text with a focus on the most recent theoretical models (Neosubstantivism, New Institutional Economics, New Institutional History).
