Morgaine Schäfer. Through the Looking Glass

With her photographic and also cross-media work, Morgaine Schäfer is one of the exciting artists of our time. This publication presents her work of the past ten years. The recurring point of reference for the photographic series here is always the preoccupation with a selection of slides by her father. Taken in the 1970s and early 1980s, the 35mm slides present the Polish mother and other family members in various settings. Artistically interpreted, they present aspects of female identity as extended self-portraits in the context of the development of photography. Female roles with familial and at the same time universal-historical references also become a theme in the group of works "Diakonissen".
