However, common susceptibility to periodontitis could be influenced by genetic and environmental factors. In integrative dentistry, all potential causes are considered and integrated into the treatment strategy. Proteomics, genetics and microbiology will provide crucial information on the type and dangerousness of periodontitis as well as the potential risks of systemic diseases. Nutrition, micronutrition, phytoaromatherapy and other approaches should be considered in the treatment of periodontal disease.
