Er wurde für den UK Kindle Storyteller Award 2021 für sein Buch Ein Tausend Li: Die zweite Sekte in die engere Auswahl genommen. Wenn er nicht gerade schreibt oder arbeitet, dann trainiert er seine Kampfkünste, liest und erträumt sich neue Welten.2019 wurde Tao zum Vollzeitautor und ist Mitglied der Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) und Novelists Inc.
