This text aims to help parents help their children to develop the core skills they need to do well in their classes and to perform at grade level on standardized tests. Mathematics and reading comprehension are the two most important areas where children must learn mastery, and they are also those where students struggle most to attain competance. Sandy McConnell received her B.S. and M.A. degrees in education from Shippensburg University and her Principal Certification from Penn State University. She serves on the Lebanon-Lancaster IU 13 Math Committee and presents math manipulative workshops to educators. She has been in education for 21 years, 14 of which have been as a first grade teacher.
