Questo non deve far meraviglia se si pensa che tutti gl'in gegni superiori, per poco che abbiano posto mente al proble ma della lingua (per l'llalia la parola non è impropria), hanno riconosciuto la superiorità della Toscana e sentito il bisogno di Ittingcre a quella fonte viva e perenne tanta ricchezza di bel parlare, quanta non è possibile forse dal solo studio dei clas sici. Basterebbe ricordare, pei tempi moderni, l'alberi e il Man zoni; nel 500 il Bembo, sebbene non fosse un ingegno sommo, s'inchinò reverente alla supremazia toscana, in fatto di lingua, e l'a., se non in teoria, in pratica fece lo stesso.
