Excerpt from Bellini: Memorie e Lettere
Oramai gia vecchio di ottantadue anni, sento che forse questo sarà l' ultimo lavoro che io pubblico in torno al mio Bellini. Ho conservato per lunghissimo tempo, con cura religiosa, tutte le lettere ch' egli mi scrisse, da che ci dividemmo, lui per andare in contro alla gloria, a Milano, io per restare modesto ar chivista in questo real Collegio, dove entrambi fummo educati. Ma non ho saputo dire di no, quando il nome dell'amico mio correva per tutte le bocche, a quelle gentili persone che mi richiesero un autografo di lui; nè pensai a ritenerne una copia, non preve dendo che un giorno mi sarebbe potuto servire.
