La massoneria a Civitavecchia

Rileggere la storia di Civitavecchia, il porto di Roma, attraverso le vicende dei massoni e delle logge della città. Nel 1811, sotto la dominazione delle truppe dell'imperatore Napoleone, nasce la prima loggia a Civitavecchia che riunisce ufficiali francesi e notabili locali. Dopo il 1870, con Roma e Civitavecchia finalmente italiane, alza le colonne la "Felice Orsini" che diventa un punto di riferimento per tutti i fratelli muratori che sbarcano nello scalo civitavecchiese, di cui fratello onorario è Giuseppe Garibaldi che spesso alloggia in città. Nella vita politica ed economica di Civitavecchia nei cinquanta anni che vanno dal 1872 al 1922 la massoneria con i suoi membri prende parte attiva ai principali avvenimenti della città. Deputati, sindaci e consiglieri comunali frequentano le logge. Filodrammatiche e associazioni di pubblica assistenza sono create dai Figli della Vedova. La fondazione della Cooperativa dei Lavoratori del Porto nel 1897 e la vittoria del Blocco Popolare nel 1908 alle elezioni comunali portano la firma di esponenti massonici. L'assalto fascista alla loggia nel 1923 mette fine a questa storia che riprenderà solo nel dopoguerra.
