Il capitano Savery, da noi già menzionato (i), si pro. Pose d' applicare la sua macchina alla navigazione, ma questo suo proponimento rimase senza effetto poichè la macchina di Savery è inetta a quell'ufficio.
Un altro meccanico inglese, G. Dickens, ottenne nel 1724 un brevetto in cui è dichiarata l'applicazione d'una macchina a vapore alla propulsione delle navi. Non si fece però alcun esperimento ed il brevetto di Dickens non ebbe alcun risultato.
