ALGERIE 20 AOUT 1955

Que s'est-il exactement passé en Algérie, le 20
août 1955, quand, à midi précis, des soldats de
l'Armée de libération nationale, branche armée
du FLN, appuyés par la population, ont attaqué
simultanément les agglomérations situées dans
le quadrilatère délimité par Collo, Philippeville,
Guelma et Constantine ? Y a-t-il eu, comme on le dit,
un massacre généralisé perpétré par les Algériens ?
Et que sait-on réellement des semaines suivantes,
où la répression et les représailles se soldèrent par
la mort de milliers de civils algériens ?
Croisant des archives incontestables avec le
témoignage des survivants des deux bords, Claire
Mauss-Copeaux éclaire d'un jour nouveau cet événement
qui fut l'un des plus marquants de la guerre
d'Algérie.
