En savoir plus

Antibacterial resistance in hospitals, in particular, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been reported globally that it is a significant pathogen for human and recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the top three threats to human health. MRSA is typically resistant to classes of antimicrobials other than beta-lactams, therefore, it is an example of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) organism. Transmission of MRSA occurs from a colonized or an infected individual to others, mainly via the hands of transiently-colonized healthcare workers (HCWs). The anterior nares are the most common site for MRSA carriage; which increases a patient's risk for developing a health care-associated infection with this bacterium especially after the surgery and in peritoneal dialysis. This book provided recent several methods for detection and to control of MRSA including the screening of hospitalized patients by nasal swab using a chromogenic selective agar which is a specific and sensitive method for fast detection of MRSA, in addition to the molecular method Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assay which focused on identification of the mecA gene.
