And as there are two topics which more than any other, party politics excepted, engross the attention of the public, namely, the Corn Laws and our Bank ing institutions, I propose to bestow some remarks upon each of them. Accordingly, some ofthe main points connected with the working of the corn laws will immediately follow the account which will be given of the state of the corn trade in the two last years; and a review of our banking institutions, but chie¿y of the management of the Bank of Eng land, with observations upon the defects of the existing system, and of the proposed remedies, will form the concluding part of the present work.
