Manuel Essl ist seit dem Jahr 2000 im Umfeld der Business Intelligence bei SAP tätig. Als Senior Berater der SAP Systems Integration AG lernte er die Aufgabenstellungen und Nöte der Kunden in zahlreichen BI-Projekten aus nächster Nähe kennen. Der Schwerpunkt des Autors verlagerte sich im Laufe der letzten Jahre kontinuierlich in die Entwicklung der SAP AG, wo er unter anderem gemeinsam mit Uwe Oehler an der Implementierung der ersten, am Markt verfügbaren SAP xApp Analytics mitwirkte. Manuel Essl absolvierte das Studium der Betriebswirtschaftslehre, das er als Diplom-Kaufmann (Univ.) abschloss, an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Vor seiner Zeit bei der SAP SI AG wirkte er bei einem Schweizer System- und Softwarehaus maßgeblich an der Entwicklung eines großen Warenwirtschaftssystems mit.
