In dieser wissenschaftlichen Arbeit wird anhand konkreter Beispiele aus Gegenwart und Vergangenheit die Adaption der Befreiungspädagogik Paulo Freires auf die gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse in Deutschland und dem übrigen Europa untersucht. Allein die Tatsache, dass Brasilien, das Heimatland Paulo Freires, gemeinhin zu den Schwellenländern der 'Dritten Welt' gezählt wird, wirft Fragen hinsichtlich der Übertragbarkeit dieser Methodik auf die Soziale Arbeit und die Begebenheiten in Europa auf. Ist eine Pädagogik, die aus der 'Dritten Welt' stammt, kompatibel mit den Industriegesellschaften der 'Ersten Welt'? Welche Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede bestehen zwischen diesen beiden Welten? Wie verliefen Freires Projekte der Befreiungspädagogik in den Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern sowie in Europa?
