Dans la première moitié du XVII^e siècle, époque
charnière dans l'histoire du théâtre français, un grand
nombre de comédies et de tragi-comédies s'inspirent
de la comedia espagnole. Un de ses premiers adaptateurs,
avec Corneille et Rotrou, fut Antoine Le Métel
d'Ouville, conteur et dramaturge normand qui publia
dix pièces de théâtre de 1638 à 1650, huit inspirées
par le théâtre espagnol et deux par le théâtre italien.
Le Théâtre complet d'Antoine Le Métel d'Ouville
est composé de trois tomes. Le présent volume est
consacré aux trois pièces adaptées de Lope de Vega :
Les Trahisons d'Arbiran, tragi-comédie (1638), L'Absent
chez soi, comédie (1643), et Les Soupçons sur les apparences,
héroïco-comédie (1650).
