Women empowerment means not only greater external control but also growing inner capability as greater self confidence and inner transformation of one s consciousness that enable one to overcome external barriers to access resources and changing the traditional ideology for social, economic and political development of women. Empowering women ensures their social appointment economic viability, political participation and strength to fight injustice. This study has been trying to conceptualize the concept of women empowerment and measuring the level of empowerment across all 29 states of India with help of NFHS-III.
