Description

En savoir plus

This study was conducted in three villages of Dhulihar Union of Satkhira district in Bangladesh focusing solely on to identify the extent of postpartum complications among women of reproductive age and to explore their health seeking behavior during this period. The findings suggest that almost all the respondents (91.4%) were married off before candling their eighteenth birthday. These women delivered their first child when they were 17 years of age and conceived as many as six children (4.9%) with or without volition. During pregnancy, they reportedly counseled with family planning assistants or workers (FPA/FPW) as well as quack and Kabiraj instead of medically certified doctors. Majority of the women have delivered their child through normal process of childbirth with the assistance of the traditional birth attendants, i.e. Dai, relatives or neighbors. Therefore, they have suffered from different postpartum complications of which excessive bleeding and physical feebleness were more often reported by the rural women. To revive from these life-risking conditions, they have preferred the traditional medication from quack, Kabiraj rather than the MBBS doctors and FPA/FPW.
