As the number of higher education (HE) courses offered in further education (FE) settings increases, so does the need for teachers and trainee teachers to develop their teaching skills. This text is written for all teachers and trainee teachers in FE. It considers what it means to teach HE in FE and how an HE environment can be created in an FE setting.
The text covers day-to-day aspects of teaching including planning and assessment, giving guidance on the unique needs of HE students. Chapters on research and quality assurance support the reader in developing some advanced teaching skills. This is a practical guide for FE teachers and trainee teachers as the sector adapts to the needs of education today.

Jonathan Tummons is associate professor and deputy head of the School of Education at Durham University, UK. Jonathan researches, writes and teaches in a variety of fields relating to higher, further, and professional education, and his work has been consulted by qualification awarding bodies, further education colleges, medical educators, Ofsted, and the OECD.
Dr Kevin Orr worked in further education for sixteen years. He is now Reader in Post-Compulsory Education and Training at the University of Huddersfield. Aside from teaching on a variety of courses, his research interests lie primarily in vocational and further education.Dr Liz Atkins is Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Huddersfield. She has taught extensively in both further and higher education on both vocational and teacher education programmes and has also managed provision in which university programmes were taught in FE colleges.
