AU DESSUS DE LA MELEE

«Au-dessus de la mêlée» est le plus célèbre
manifeste pacifiste de la Grande Guerre.
Comparable au «J'accuse» de Zola, il fut
publié par Romain Rolland le 24 septembre
1914 dans le Journal de Genève. Ce texte
exceptionnel, qui exhorte les belligérants à
prendre de la hauteur pour saisir l'ampleur du
désastre, provoqua aussitôt de nombreuses
réactions violentes et haineuses envers son
auteur, dont la lucidité, l'idéal de non-violence
et de communion entre les peuples furent
néanmoins récompensés, dès l'année suivante,
par le prix Nobel de littérature.
