This excellent singing tutor presents 15 lessons, all designed to teach the singer both vocal exercises and the use of the Italian language. It has long been thought that the Italian language is best suited to the art of singing, and in this edition, rather than use meaningless monosyllables, Vaccai has set Metastasio's beautiful poetry to each exercise.

Der Komponist und Sänger Nicola Vaccai machte es sich zur Aufgabe, die Ãbungen, die jeder Schüler anfangs zur Stimmbildung machen sollte, ansprechender zu gestalten. Deshalb schrieb er kurze Stücke, jedes mit einem eigenen Zweck und mit Text unterlegt. Für den deutschen Leser fügte John Bernhoff Ãbersetzungen davon hinzu, Vaccai selbst empfiehlt dagegen, Verse von Metastasio auf seine Melodien zu singen.
