Le Dr Sheppard, médecin de King's Abbott,
sait tout ce qui se passe au village, sa pratique
lui fournissant un poste d'observation idéal...
Aussi pouvons-nous le croire sur parole quand
il nous dit que Mme Ferrars est morte, un an
après son mari, pour avoir avalé quelques
comprimés de véronal de trop. Et quand Roger
Ackroyd, avec qui la veuve entretenait une
relation plus qu'amicale, est poignardé dans
son manoir, que penser ? Le bon docteur
devient une sorte d'assistant pour Hercule
Poirot, le fameux détective belge aux petites
moustaches qui, retiré depuis peu au village,
prend l'enquête en main à la demande de
la famille du défunt. Et le récit du Dr Sheppard
mérite d'être observé à la loupe, car il est plein
de trous, de contradictions et de chausse-trappes,
jusqu'au dénouement fracassant !
