MARTHE RICHARD

Le 9 avril 1946, l'Assemblée nationale décidait la fermeture des maisons closes sur l'ensemble du territoire français. À cette loi l'histoire a donné un nom : Marthe Richard (1889-1982). Armée d'une ambition de fer et veuve d'un officier britannique, elle fut elle-même prostituée à seize ans puis pilote d'avion, avant que la Grande Guerre n'en fasse une espionne.
Élue en décembre 1945 au conseil municipal de Paris, elle s'engagea dans la lutte contre les maisons closes et la police des moeurs ; mais tandis qu'elle parlait asservissement des femmes, la classe politique pensait épuration : il était temps de fermer ces lieux de collaboration active sous l'Occupation. Marthe Richard, qui n'est pas l'auteur de la fameuse loi, sera pourtant considérée comme la seule responsable de la fermeture.
