Joseph Finder wird 1958 in Chicago geboren und wächst in Albany, New York, auf. Er studiert in Yale und Harvard und arbeitet am Russian Research Center der Universität Harvard. Finder spricht fließend Russisch und unternimmt viele Reisen in die ehemalige Sowjetunion. Er ist Spezialist für russische und internationale Politik sowie Geheimdienste und veröffentlichte Beiträge in The New York Times, Washington Post, und The Times. 1983 erscheint sein Buch "Red Carpet". Finder ist Autor mehrerer Romane.Finder lebt mit seiner Frau und seiner Tochter in Boston.
