An associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Howard University School of Medicine, he was a faculty member at the Baltimore-Washington Institute for Psychoanalysis. He is the chair of the Forum for Movies and Mind and the film programmer for meetings of the American Psychoanalytic Association. He was the principal investigator of the School-Based Mourning Project in Washington, D.C. and the initiator for Recover, an acute bereavement service at the DC Morgue. Myra Sklarew, former president of the artist community Yaddo and professor emerita of literature at American University, Washington, D.C., is the author of three chapbooks and seven collections of poetry, including Lithuania: New & Selected Poems and Harmless. In addition to writing, she studied biology at Tufts University, bacterial genetics and viruses at Cold Spring Harbor Biological Laboratory, and worked at Yale University School of Medicine studying frontal lobe function and delayed response memory in rhesus monkeys.
