The increase in income associated with significant population growth has driven consumption and increased demand for animal protein. The state of Santa Catarina has a high consumption of beef, justified by the culture of its inhabitants, influenced by local tourism and also by the fact that the population's income is above the national average. However, a significant portion of the state's livestock consists of dairy animals, and it therefore needs to import beef from other states. In addition, the state plays an important role in livestock farming, as it is considered a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone without vaccination, thus allowing it to enter specific markets. There is no clear mapping of slaughter locations and few studies on their current situation, and the real demand for slaughterhouses/meatpacking plants has not been identified. The research made it possible to identify the general production situation of each unit and also analyze their future demands and aspirations. It was possible to describe the current slaughter situation and assess the state's great growth potential.
