Progressivism can be understood as a political doctrine that expresses the belief or desire for evolution, development, improvement, and overcoming. This book analyses prominent schools of philosophical and economic thought, such as English empiricism, French Enlightenment, utilitarianism, Marxist socialism, capitalism, English liberalism, German idealism, American pragmatism, Chinese Maoism, and above all, positivism and progressive thought, as a form of understanding that has influenced the world, Latin America, and Brazil, revealing the positivism of Auguste Comte, constituting his own progressive thought, in the political and social actions of the state, society and the individual, with the effective participation of the centre, the right and the left in Brazil, as demonstrated in the firmament of this Progressive Thought in relation to other philosophical and economic schools of thought in other countries. Progressivism is not mere utopia. It is a way of thinking about the world in order to find the ideal political, economic, social and ideological development of a society, to achieve happiness and a reason for living.
