This book is the result of research conducted between 2011 and 2013, whose objective was to analyse the phenomenon of temporary hiring of teachers in Basic Education in the Public School System of the State of Paraná. Special hiring is an atypical form of admission, intended only to meet temporary needs of exceptional public interest. However, this modality has become an increasingly common practice in recent years, as shown by the data presented in this study. The results show that teachers hired through the Simplified Selection Process do not have the same rights as those hired through competitive examinations, do not enjoy job security, and do not have access to career plans or other benefits historically associated with public teaching. This type of hiring is characterised by constant professional uncertainty, in addition to the minimisation of labour rights, which has led to the precariousness of working conditions for professionals subject to this hiring regime.
