The crash of a Tupolev Tu-154 belonging to the Hungarian state airline Malév on 30 September 1975, shortly before landing in Beirut, into the sea with 60 fatalities remains a mystery to this day. The tragedy was accompanied by a cover-up of enormous proportions. Neither the wreckage nor the flight recorders were ever recovered, and after about two weeks, Hungary simply declared that the cause of the crash remained unclear. Case closed. And although it has been proven that more than half of the victims were recovered, Hungary denies this. What happened to flight MA240? Was it pilot error? A bomb? Or was the plane shot down? After all, Malév was illegally transporting arms at the time, and a bloody civil war was raging in Lebanon. It has also been proven that a high-ranking delegation from the Arabic terrorist organisation PLO was booked on this flight. With his usual meticulousness, aviation expert Patrick Huber has researched the case and attempted to unravel the mystery of Flight MA240.
