Small Town School is presented in three parts. Part One describes teaching both in the US, in Vermont, and in the small-town of Wilmington, Vermont during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Part Two describes the four major construction projects of Wilmington's Central/High School: 1899, 1930, 1955, and 1981. Part Three describes the history of various school-related experiences of Wilmington's students: health and well-being, sports, transportation, technology, traditions, student activities, fundraising, and field trips. Having taught in the school for 32 years, author Larsen intersperses personal reminiscences and observations throughout the book.
Über den Autor / die Autorin
Dave Larsen was hired in 1972 to teach social studies at Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Vermont. He retired in 2005. As he writes in his introduction, "During my teaching career (1972-2005), while I might have had an occasional interest in the history of the building, it was the demands of teaching and finding the time to meet them that prevented me from delving into that history. Now, some 52 years after my first week of teaching, this book is an attempt to rectify that."
