This book will introduce a model of support for people who have experienced trauma, based on the FAIT and central to the goal of the Amara Care organisation led by Pat Frankish. It will provide an overview of the growing body of evidence about early trauma and repeated traumatic experiences and will summarise developments in therapeutic approaches for people with intellectual and other disabilities, with additional emotional needs. Aimed at health and social care professionals working in intellectual and other disability services, the book will introduce practical examples of different settings where these therapies have been applied including supported living, outpatient therapy, children and adults, diverse and multicultural approaches. There are contributions from leading individuals in the field who have incorporated psychotherapy and this trauma-informed approach into their services.
