In initial times of the Internet, it has been argued that the Internet would empower users to consume eminent transparent informationwhich would therefore escalate the standard of democracies (Tewksbury, 2003). People may also comment that due to pervasive nature of unverified news on social networking sites would decrease the standard/quality of democracy. The emergence of Internet and the extensive use of social networking sites have empowered individual from large media producers (Webster, 2014). The term Social Media is referred as "a group of Internet-based applications that build an ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content" (Kaplan, 2010). Collaboration, community and connectedness are the critical attributes of social media. Online social networks help in improving the user¿s capability to associate with like-minded people. According to Approved Social media Framework and Guidelines under the department of Electronics and Information technology, the engagements enable users to collude and create their communities and share knowledge (ASM2016). With the surge of demand for 24x7 connectivity, social media creates opportunities accompanied with lot of challenges.Social media networking sites have witnessed stupendous growth and popularity with the huge growth of mobile devices market and the increasing availability of internet; social networking sites have become the part of people¿s daily lives. SNSs have extended the user¿s communication capacities, making it easier for individuals to communicate and to connect with their social network (Ellison, Steinfield & Lampe, 2007).
