Roberto Valiente and Alyssa Villanueva have fallen in love during the most dangerous period in Cuba's turbulent history. Fidel Castro has overthrown the country's repressive government. Initially, the people are jubilant, but it doesn't last. Castro sees enemies in every corner. The innocent are executed by firing squad along with the guilty and the promise of Castro's new regime soon fades. The lovers develop a plan to escape the island by boat to the Florida Keys. Before she can reach the dock where Roberto awaits, Alyssa is detained by the manipulative and despicable Diego Montalvo, Castro's personal attorney, who's infatuated with her beauty. Roberto reluctantly leaves without her, but vows that he'll soon be coming back to rescue her.
Based upon actual events, the novel has been written for adult readers who injoy being absorbed into fast-moving stories of love, war, suspense and mystery. They will follow the characters through an exciting Caribbean labyrinth of heroes and villains, beginning with the discovery of a treasure map and culminating with a final harrowing escape attempt from the island.
