This book presents oral literature from the perspective of Igede and Tiv societies of Benue state, Nigeria. A peculiar quietness of this book is its focus on contemporary songs in examining social structures and contours while also drawing solutions profoundly from the creative reservoir of composers and singers in both societies. Socio-political, cultural, religious and economic issues find explicit scrutiny in songs captured herein; thus, demonstrating the intricate nature and relentless efforts of contemporary artists in surmounting challenges deterring the transformation and development of their immediate society. These songs which are rendered in both Igede and Tiv languages are advantageous because it leads to better understanding of messages communicated. More fundamentally, they satisfy the yearnings and aspirations, while also orienting and re-orienting the younger generation in both societies.

Jerry Idah Odeh es un graduado del Departamento de Artes Teatrales de la Universidad Estatal de Benue, Makurdi. Allí demostró su temple como un prometedor académico y un artista orientado a la práctica, como estudiante de pregrado y postgrado (M.A.), con sesgo en el Teatro Técnico. Actualmente es Asistente de Investigación y Candidato a Doctor en la misma Universidad.
