Laura Sinclair is a Research Assistant at the Sydney Museum. She had not expected much from her life, her mother's secret gambling problem had ruled it from an early age. However two forces unknowingly had been guiding her. As a child she had been given two books, one that had given her a love of Egyptian history and another to ignite a passion for translating cuneiform. This was to place her on her soul contracted path. A path that all of us have been given. Laura's first year at university, she begins to bloom as her dream of becoming an Egyptologist seem to come true. On her second year, her hard earned money that she had saved is gambled away by her mother causing her to leave. To pay off money owed to the Institution Laura is given a job at the Sydney Museum, where her boss abuses her talents for translations of cuneiform. After years of working at the Museum Laura meets Paul, unknown to Laura this meeting is set up due to her mother's gambling debts. When the relationship fails Laura tries to leave however she finds out that she is having Paul's baby. They marry because of the baby, however living in a loveless marriage it does not last. Laura is given a chance after her divorce to go to Egypt for her Museum. Within hours of landing in Egypt, Laura meets a young charismatic American at the Egyptian Museum. Who is, a much younger Matt Dixson an Egyptologist with a dejected past. They start what was to be a holiday romance, however the romance between soul mates can never be just let go.
