DE L'AVARICE DU GASPILLAGE ET DE LA PA

« Le simple fait d'être pauvre ne suffit pas à classer quelqu'un dans la catégorie des "pauvres". »

Quel sens peuvent avoir le gaspillage et l'avarice, alors même que l'argent se définit par son abstraction ? Que pense le mendiant quand on refuse de lui faire l'aumône ? Et qu'est-ce que la pauvreté, qu'elle soit choisie comme dans certaines communautés religieuses (franciscains et bouddhistes) ou subie ? Pour y répondre, voici deux essais du grand sociologue allemand : un texte de 1899, inédit en français, et la célèbre étude de 1908 où Georg Simmel montre que le pauvre n'est pas celui qui manque de ressources, mais celui que nous désignons comme pauvre et que nous plaçons dans une relation d'assistance... Dès lors, comment sortir de la pauvreté ?
