Se il vanto dell'aver novamente uniti musica e dramma, dell' aver fatto in qualche modo rivivere la clas sica forma della tragedia greca, che, nessun più ne du bita, era cantata, spetta a Firenze:, Venezia vanta il pri mato cronologico de' suoi teatri musicali; Venezia, che rese gradito a' cittadini d' ogni classe uno spettacolo non veduto dianzi se non nelle sale principesche e patrizie. E furono i maestri veneti, Claudio Monteverde alla testa di tutti, che tracciarono la via, che l' opera va percor rendo da quasi tre secoli.
