Excerpt from Proceedings of the International Boundary Commission, United States and Mexico: Relating to the Placing of an Additional Monument to More Perfectly Mark the International Boundary Line Through the Towns of Caléxico, California, and Mexicali, Baja California, and the Restoration of International Monument No. 221, Near Those Towns
Upon examination. We found that the monument was at a safe distance (some 230 meters) from the deep channel of New River and that, although the ground around it was badly eroded, these erosions coming close to the monument, its foundation had not yet been disturbed. It appeared to us that a reasonable amount of grading around the monument would render it safe in its present position. It marks the site of monument no. IV Of the survey Of 1852 and is especially made for this place, having inscription plates in the base reciting that it is a restoration of the Old monument, and being much larger (2 feet square at the base) than are the standard cast iron monuments. It would not have been appropriate to have erected it at any other place.
