Excerpt from Boucher: Etude, Contenant Quatre Dessins Gravés à l'Eau-Forte
Boucher ef't une gloire parifienne. Il naquit à Paris, non en 1704, comme l'ont dit les biographes contemporains, comme l'ont répété, après eux, les biographes du fiècle préfent, - mais le 29 feptembre 1703 (i). Une note du Recueil des Chanfans ma nufcrites de Maurepas lui donne pour père un grainetier. La Galerie françoife de Re¿out, mieux informée, fait naître Boucher d'un peintre allez obfcur qui, après lui avoir enfeigné les premiers éléments de la peinture, reconnut bien vite que fon élève méritait un maître plus habile l'envoya étudier chez Lemoine, célèbre alors.
