Excerpt from Summarization Report of the Technical Aspects of the 1962 Western Hemlock Looper Control Project at Astoria, Oregon
In the summer of 1962, a cooperative project was undertaken by the State of Oregon Department of Forestry, Industry, and the U. S. Forest Service to control a serious infestation of the western hemlock looper, Lambdina fiscellaria lugubrosa Hulst., on acres of hemlock timber in Clatsop County, Oregon. A cooperative egg survey in late 1961 and early 1962 helped delineate the boundaries of the infestation.l. Treatment was pound of technical grade ddt dissolved in quarts of an auxiliary solvent diluted in #2 fuel oil to make 1 gallons per acre.
