Si noti il termine extraction in luogo di subtract:one. Esempio. Sin da sottrarre 657 da 939: si cominci dal sottrarre 7 dal 9, rimane 2, che si ponga sopra la prima figura del numero maggiore: oi si do vrebbe sottrarre 5 da 3, ma non si può: si aggiunga 10 e si ormi 13, dal quale sottratto il 5 riman 8, che si scriva sopra la seconda figura del numero maggiore, e per li 10 aggiunti alla seconda figura del nu mero maggiore 5: ritenga in mano 1 che si aggiunga alla terza figura del numero minore, e formato 5 lo si sottragga da 9, e resterà che si scriva sopra la terza figura del numero maggiore, e sarà 132 il residuo della sottrazione.
