Excerpt from History of the Department of Massachusetts Woman's Relief Corps, Auxilliary to the Grand Army of the Republic: From Date of Organization, February 12, 1879, to January 1, 1895; With Appendixes
Realizing that the Woman's Relief Corps is an organization whose work as an Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic will cease when all the comrades are mustered out, this record has been written for permanent preservation.
At the Fourteenth Annual Convention of the Department of Massachusetts in 1893, a vote was passed that a history of this, the Pioneer Department, be prepared, and the undersigned were subsequently appointed a committee to have charge of the work. The gathering of statistics, compilation from records, correspondence, etc., have required much time and labor, but we trust that the results will Show that our efforts have not been useless.
