No se sabe con seguridad qué año se estableció la primera imprenta en el Perú, pero, a juzgar por ciertos datos, es de creer que fué entre los años de 158221 1583, porque el tercer con cilio Limano que duró desde 1582 a 1583, ordenó en la sesion del 15 de Agosto de 1583 que, cumpliendo con lo dispuesto en el 29 concilio Limano, se tradujera al Quechua y Aymara y se impri _miese el catecismo de la doctrina cristiana. Si el concilio mandó en Agosto de 1588 que se imprimiera el catecismo, es evidente que ya existia una imprenta bien organizada.
