Excerpt from Footlights
IT is not usual to issue a book without a preface, though very often a preface is issued without a book. This is a preface, but Footlights may not be exactly a book. It is the eleventh volume of stories, essays, and sketches which I have published at various times. A polite reviewer might call me a snapper-up of unconsidered tri¿es.
