Resource partitioning among the Insectivorous birds

This book describes the ecology of some insectivorous birds in the agricultural ecosystem, particularly in the Cauvery delta region of Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu, India. Here an intensive study with regard to population distribution, feeding habits and breeding habits of some insectivorous birds has been made. At the end resource partitioning among the birds has been estimated using appropriate statistical tool. This study aims to prove the concept of niche segregation/ resource partitioning among the insectivorous birds such as Bee- eaters, Drongo and Blue jay. Further, the importance of insectivorous birds as bio control agents in the control of crop pests has been established.

Über den Autor / die Autorin

Dr. S. Asokan Served in various teaching positions at AVC College, (Autonomous), Mayiladuthurai since 1982. He has a total of 34 years of teaching experience in zoology and wildlife biology. He was elevated as Controller of Examinations and as principal during 2014-16. Presently serving as CoE at Periyar Maniyammai University, Thanjavur.
