Local circumstances also support the truth of the tradition; for instance, there is a stone in Afton Glen that is called to this day Wallace's Stone. The name of the Celtic lords of Cumnock is altered from the original story, which represents it to have been m'rierick; and the m'riericks of Kerne, in the neighbourhood, are said to have sprung from the race. This family became ex tinct only during the last century.
